horizons
art in a changing friesland
The third floor of the new museum basks in daylight and is therefore perfectly suited to displaying modern and contemporary art. The exhibition Horizons (Horizonnen) uses art to celebrate the human drive to constantly expand horizons. Paintings, photographs, installations and video works guide and accompany you on a journey through Friesland’s wild nature and villages, it’s cities, the people themselves, and onward into the future. Works by artists such as Gerrit Benner, Jan Mankes and Robert Zandvliet invite you to view your surroundings from a different perspective. Exhibits include works by famous international artists, including Tacita Dean and Gerhard Richter (who have never heard of Friesland) that seem to be direct linked to Friesland and Frisian art.
