Disco disco, Frisia! Museumnacht Friesland is back at the Fries Museum, and we're partying our way into the night — medieval style! Think: Redbad and dance raves. Swords and glitter. Myths and mojitos. You get the idea: on 26 September we're partying for one night like it's the year 688. Grab a drink, go on an adventure through the museum, and let yourself be surprised by everything that's happening.

Dive into the world of King Redbad and visit the brand-new Redbad exhibition, a mythical exhibition about this legendary king.
Play Mythwatch: the brand-new roleplaying game by Mythemakers, inspired by the story of Redbad. Unravel mysteries, overcome challenges, and shape the world together. No preparation or experience needed!
Immerse yourself in the (early) medieval era! Reenactment group Monetarii Dorestatii will be roaming around all evening, showing what the former inhabitants of our province looked like around 825 AD. Get your hair braided Viking-style at Valhalla Hairsalon, dress up as an early medieval (red)baddie and immortalise your outfit at the photobooth, or make sure you never forget this night with a free Redbad-inspired flash tattoo from TattooHive (Redbad 4 life). Prefer to get creative? Make your own fibula inspired by centuries-old shiny jewellery.
Race through the Fries Museum highlights on a speed tour. How did Friesland come to be, and what makes something typically Frisian? Join the speed tour 'Ferhaal fan Fryslân' and discover how poets, artists, singers, and filmmakers have captured Friesland over the years. Available in Dutch and English!

Let's dance like it's 688 AD! With the moon in the sky and our hair in the (symbolic) wind. These DJs provide the soundtrack for your evening, in collaboration with Poppodium Neushoorn.
DJ Intermezzo
This evening we have a jam-packed programme, and that calls for the right music. DJ Intermezzo brings a subtle party vibe and the perfect background music for your evening. With musical versatility and a feel for atmosphere, he offers the right musical framing for every occasion. Visitors can count on a relaxed, carefully curated soundtrack.
DJ MIKKL
Genre-bending sets, driven by hard-hitting percussion and always with a touch of queer tune. On DJ MIKKL's dance floor, we're all one. After producing electronic music for interdisciplinary projects, MIKKL brings her love for a wide range of music to the decks. Inspired by artists like Jamie xx, Surusinghe, and Effy, she brings a hefty dose of energy to the museum!
Wear your best medieval outfit
Dressing up for the museum? Oh yeah! Come strut your stuff in your best medieval-inspired outfit from home, or dress up as an early medieval (red)baddie using the clothes in our hall. Immortalise your fit at our special photo spot. Gather your friends and strike a pose like the warrior you are! 💃
Redbad Spritz Bar
Aperol, move over! This Museum Night, we have a genuine Redbad Spritz bar. The drink is made with Frisian Fenrir Mead — a type of drink made from real honey, brewed according to old recipes.
