museumnacht: saturday 30 september

On Saturday 30 September, the second edition of Museumnacht FRL will take place. Together with Kunstinitiatief VHDG, the Fries Museum is organising a unique exhibition-for-1-night at surprising locations in the museum during this Museumnacht.

For this event, the organisations are issuing an open call for inspired artists from various disciplines who live and/or work in Friesland and want to be part of this nightly programme.

Are you a visual artist, performance artist, work with video or sound, or have you designed an interactive art workshop and are eager to show it to a large, diverse audience? Then take part in this Open Call by arts initiative VHDG and the Fries Museum. For terms and conditions, visit www.friesmuseum.nl/OpenCall. This Open Call is for everyone, from experienced artists with, or without training, to young creators and recent graduates.

museumnacht frl

On Saturday 30 September 2023, Frisian museums will open their doors for the only provincial museum night in the Netherlands, Museumnacht FRL. Besides the special atmosphere of a nocturnal museum visit, there will be a unique programme of music, performances, lectures and stories in museums across Fryslân. Again this year, museums and various other cultural institutions are working together to encourage a younger target group to discover culture and museums. On 30 September, the Fries Museum will host this Museumnacht. We therefore consider it important that the submitted works are of interest to this target group.

practical information

There are three spots in the museum during Museum Night that can be filled by winners of this Open Call. This can be with one artwork, or several works that together form a presentation, for example a number of paintings, a video work or performance, a sound artwork with an installation, or a workshop with visual elements. The Open Call only applies to existing works that you will adapt where necessary for a presentation at the Fries Museum. Winners will receive an honorarium of €1350 with a production and expenses budget of €1000.
To take part in the Open Call, submit your work + a short presentation plan via opencall@friesmuseum.nl, for all conditions and more information, see: www.friesmuseum.nl/opencall

Your submission should consist of a description and photos or video of your work. In addition, we ask for a short presentation plan and motivation. It would be nice if you include a short bio and argue your link with Friesland and the Museumnacht.

To participate in this exhibition, please submit the following:

  1. A clear description (max. 1 A4), photo or video of your work.
  2. A short presentation plan (by this we mean ideas on how to perform during the museum night. Information on available locations can be found below). The final location will be determined in cooperation with the curators. Max. 3 A4.
  3. A short motivation, who are you, what is your link with Friesland and why is your project suitable for implementation in the museum on Museum Night. Max. 1 A4.
  4. Any additional information that may be relevant to your participation.
