On Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 December, Ernesto Lemke will be working on a Lego version of Ed Sheeran in the Fries Museum. Lemke will base his sculpture on the portrait of Ed Sheeran by the Irish artist Colin Davidson, which was on display from 11 September to 18 December 2021 in Icons: Masterpieces from the National Portrait Gallery. This successful exhibition had to close early due to the lockdown.

You can watch Lemke create this Lego artwork live on the Fries Museum’s Facebook and Instagram social media channels on Wednesday 29 December, from 13.00 to 15.00 (@friesmuseum and facebook.com/friesmuseum). There will also be an opportunity to ask Ernesto questions online.

Irish artist Colin Davidson portrayed the famous singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran in 2015. The painting was subsequently included in the collection of the National Portrait Gallery in London.

Ernesto Lemke is a contemporary artist who lives and works just outside Leeuwarden. In 2020, he applied as a candidate for the Dutch-Belgian production of the ‘LEGO Masters 2021’ television programme. His portrait of Arjen Lubach, made in his famous ‘Brickpainting’ technique, was selected as the winning entry on the Dutch TV programme ‘Sterren op het Doek’ (Stars on Canvas).
