The Fries Museum in Leeuwarden is hosting the exhibition Taus Makhacheva: It’s possible to raise the ceiling a bit*. In films, objects and installations Taus Makhacheva (Moscow, 1983) reflects on rituals, celebrations and the extraordinary in the everyday, with playful and humorous overtones. The exhibition was planned to open on Saturday, 27 March 2021, but a nationwide lockdown due to Covid has made a physical opening impossible. To mark the original opening date, a video commissioned on the occasion of exhibition launch will premiere on the museum's social media channels at 4 p.m. that day. The film Vernissage Ensemble** translates the exhibition into a virtual dress.

Taus Makhacheva invited designer Panika Derevya and film director Alexandra Pustynnova to develop a digital dress which the artist, currently in Moscow, will be wearing on the original opening date of her exhibition in Leeuwarden.

This is simultaneously a dress as object, a dress as museum, and a dress one simply steps into. Designed as appliqués or parts of its structural carcass, each element of the dress refers to Taus’ practice and all the works exhibited at the exhibition. A video of the unfolding of the digital dress is to be launched on the Facebook, Instagram and Youtube page of the museum on Saturday 27 March at 16.00h.

This exhibition will be on display as soon as the museum reopens.
