It would not be easy to put this age-old so-called stick purse in your pocket … It has several compartments that are attached to a stick which serves as a handle. The cord served to hang it on the owner’s belt.

As in the 16th and 17th centuries each major town in Europe, including those in Friesland minted their own coins, it was convenient to keep the different species separated: different pockets for different coins.
