The education programme is part of the international project Redbad, in which nine organisations from the Netherlands and Germany collaborate. Learning Hub Friesland is responsible for connecting the international education programme to the wider project. Over the coming months, about 60 teachers from secondary and vocational education will take part in one or more inspiration days, representing a range of disciplines including Dutch, German, history, Frisian, citizenship, and art.
Alongside schools and museums, partners include the University of Groningen, the Mythemakers foundation, and the Fryske Akademy. The Fries Museum is the project’s initiator and lead partner. In addition to the education programme, a historical roleplaying game is being developed, along with an academic publication and a popular book. The academic research will also form the basis for a major exhibition on Redbad, opening on 5 September 2026 at the Fries Museum and later travelling to Emden (Germany).
Project REDBAD is carried out within the framework of the Interreg VI Germany–Netherlands programme, co-funded by the European Union, the Lower Saxony Ministry for Federal and European Affairs and Regional Development, the Province of Fryslân, and the Province of Groningen.
